The clients wanted a garden that complemented the contemporary architecture of their new home whilst also allowing the house to settle into its rural surroundings.

Spread across a seven acre site, it was important that the garden provide spaces for entertainment as well as informal and relaxed spaces for quiet contemplation. A large kitchen garden and orchard are included as well as a private terrace on the west side of the garden for the family to enjoy the last of the evening sunshine.

A bold and limited palette of materials were to be used, with polished concrete used throughout the interior of the house being used on the main garden terraces.

Clean and crisp lines dominate the hard landscaping around the house, becoming more organic with curves in the wider garden. Sculptural land forming mixed with bold drifts of grass and perennial planting, as well as a newly planted birch woodland form the wider areas of the garden.

Construction is due to begin in 2019.
