RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival 2021

Best in Show, Gold Medal, People’s Choice and Best Construction Awards

Sponsored by Cancer Research UK, Tom made RHS history being the first person at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show to win the Quartet of Best in Show, Gold Medal, People’s Choice and Best Construction Award.

Design to be a celebration of legacy gifts in wills, the entire garden was set out in the shape of a figure of eight to symbolise the everlasting impact and progress gifts in will make. A serpentine water rill weaving through the planting leads visitors to the sunken seating area where they are invited to take a moment, sit and absorb the tranquillity of the space. A natural stone path merges with a raised timber boardwalk that seemingly floats about the planting. Cut from a single sapele tree, the boards of the deck are engraved with the quote from a real-life pledger on what it means to her to leave a gift in her will. This is paired with quotations from the charity, to expressing the importance of support on the lifesaving research the charity carries out.

A planting palette of pinks, purples and blues were chosen to reflect the charities colours. These are stitched together with a lush mix of lime green with pale yellow as a soft accent colour.

As the most successful garden in the history of RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, the garden was commended by the judges as being elegantly designed, beautifully constructed, and planted with both style and grace.
